When it comes to an honourable cause, Operation Restore hope is one of the best. This not-for-profit charity offers surgical repairs for children in the Philippines who suffer from Cleft lips, Palates and other facial deformities.
To make this possible, it involves fundraising all year round to afford supplies, flights and everything needed in order to make a change in these young underprivileged children’s lives.
Operation Restore Hope relies on donations from generous individuals and many of the equipment used during surgery is brought from here in New Zealand or is donated.
Surgeons and anaesthetists come from all around the world while most of the nurses involved work in local hospitals in the Philippines and Australia. The local nurses play a crucial role in this process and are heavily involved in the aftercare of the children post-surgery.
It is estimated that there are over 250,000 children and adults that are suffering from Cleft lip and Palate. The price of these surgeries can be very low, with the average price being $750 NZD thanks to the donations from so many kind-hearted individuals. In Operation Restore Hopes most recent mission, the doctors worked around the clock and managed to do 78 surgeries in only four days.
