Like a fairytale come to life, witnessing my best friends proposal was something truly magical. The joy, love and utter surprise that came rushing to her face the moment he went down on one knee, is a moment that I know we will both cherish forever. There’s nothing quite as beautiful as true love, that is something I truly believed – until I saw her engagement ring which was as beautiful as their love for one another.
Her wedding ring was a platinum gold band, which featured the most intricate detailing, holding four perfectly cut diamonds and two-midnight blue sapphires. It was personal and unique – her now fiance’s selection couldn’t have been more perfect. As a lover of fine jewellery myself I later learnt that her ring was a bespoke design, and that her partner had teamed up with one of Auckland’s finest jewelsmith, Colin from Aurum. Curious to see if he designed jewellery other than rings I hit up google for Aurum’s website, and the next thing I knew I was making an appointment to see Colin himself.
The moment I stepped into Aurum I was made to feel welcome and relaxed and from there the conversation between Colin and me flowed. Somehow through all of my babbling, Colin managed to piece together a design that captured exactly what I imagined, a timelessly designed bracelet reminiscent of the Victorian era, fitted with blue and white diamonds. Colin’s ability to capture what I wanted only 30 minutes into the meeting, assured me of the dedication he places on not only ensuring his client’s desires are heard but also that those desires are met to the highest possible standard.
It wasn’t until I saw the finished product however, that I realised just how skilled and experienced Colin and his team at Aurum we’re in making jewellery. Not only does it look better than I could’ve imagined, the bracelet fits my wrist like a glove, and is also comfortable to wear in comparison to other bracelets I have. Just like Aurum helped my best friends dream come true, the team at Aurum also helped to bring mine to life too. It is without a doubt that the experience you’re offered at Aurum, is a rare jewel to find elsewhere in Auckland, and it’s one that I hope to endure again.
