Interior Designer and Perth-born Mal Corboy has been designing for over 19 years. He’s a self-taught designer who loves to experiment with colours and light. You may have seen his sleek pretty-in-pink kitchen design, which shows his enthusiasm to work with different colours. Not only does he design award-winning kitchens, but also bathrooms, furniture and full interiors throughout the world. Mal has won numerous awards in four countries, where most recently he won SBID design of the year for his project under the KBB section, winning over hundreds of entries worldwide.
In an interview with The NZ Herald he talks about kitchen design and says, “New Zealand has more custom-made kitchens than anywhere else in the world…The kiwi lifestyle is a lot more casual so we don’t tend to have formal dining rooms. New Zealand was among the first countries to have open-plan kitchens and they are some of the biggest in the world.”
When he moved to New Zealand, he started with cabinet making, before builders started asking him to help with kitchens.
“The kitchen has to be the statement piece of the house. It’s where we live and entertain. The party always ends up in the kitchen,” he says.
When you work with Mal, he makes sure that you’ll receive the very best in design and expertise. The process includes design brief, concept drawings, detailed production drawings, quotes, choosing the product and colours and access to the latest products and design discounts to name a few.
In KBB review, Mal talks about how “Open-plan living has changed my career,” he says. “I have to consider how the flooring is going to look, what colours are on the walls or what light fittings are going to be there. I have to have an overall view of how the whole space fits and works.”
It’s safe to say he’s brought many creative visions to life.
