With a magazine full of cosmetic procedures and appearance medicine, The Beauty Book Editor Vanessa Green knows the ins and outs of the industry. She isn’t shy about her own experiences, either. We sat down with Vanessa to discuss her recent experience with the renowned Dr Frances Pitsilis.
When it comes to looking and feeling good, many people are wary of botox and other treatments like dermal fillers, she explains, very much aware of the public opinion on such procedures. However, it comes to Dr Frances Pitsilis, the inside is just as important as the outside.
“Everyone wants to look special,” muses Vanessa as she leafs through the information she received at her appointment, which includes a facial assessment review.
Vanessa talks us through her consultative process which includes an internal review, an external review, and then creates a treatment plan based on both. Dr Frances ensures it’s a collaborative process and emphasises the importance of certain minerals, such as zinc.
Dr Frances also puts together a future treatment plan, so that clients are able to discern for themselves what they may need in the future. This speaks to the reputation that Dr Frances has garnered, effective treatments with a ‘less is more’ philosophy.
Vanessa talks us through her own procedures, which included fillers being tubed through a cannula – a small, blunt and flexible needle. This simplifies the filler injection process by requiring fewer punctures. Cannulas have the ability to cover a greater area in a single treatment. One or two entries with the cannulas can fill approximately half of a patient’s face versus the sharp tip needle which requires multiple penetrations and covers less area. This alone, reduces the length of the procedure as well as the pain, discomfort and trauma associated with it.
“Although, there can be downsides, so don’t go getting this done the morning of your wedding,” she warns.
Common side effects include bruising and puffiness for some as everyone’s body reacts differently. For Vanessa, however, it’s a no-brainer.
“I have every intention of growing old beautifully, from the inside as well as the outside,” she laughs. And don’t we all?
